With Thanksgiving coming up this week, cooking in the kitchen is going to be hectic but it is important to keep yourself and your family safe from a potential fire. Follow these safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:

- Keep all knives out of the reach of children.
- Make sure there are no electrical cords from an electrical knife, plate warmer or other small kitchen appliance are out of reach from children.
- Keep matches and utility lighters up high in a locked cabinet.
- Never leave children alone in a room with a lit candle.
